- All learning materials will be supplied electronically via a secure login space, and assessment tools, the SIPT/EASI will need to be provided by the relevant NHS Trust.
- The ASI Wise CLASI Certification in Ayres’ Sensory Integration is awarded on successful completion of modules M1 – M6 and all assignments as per CLASI Guidelines. These guidelines are subject to change as the EASI is formally launched and SIPT learning is phased out over 2020 and 2021.
M1 AYRES SENSORY INTEGRATION THEORY ONLINE

The latest advancements in neuroscience support the application of the theory of sensory integration as an approach to dealing with children, adolescents, adults, and older adults. This module will provide the therapists with a theoretical basis for the application of the theory of sensory integration for clinical practice.
The focus of the first module will be on the theory of sensory integration, the central nervous system, the neuroscience of sensory systems, modulation, praxis, and the principles of evaluation and intervention in sensory integration. This online module provides in-depth lectures accompanied by supplemental videos and assignments to enhance your experience.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES

- Define scientific theory, model and frame of reference
- Recognise core principles and concepts of Ayres Sensory Integration® Theory
- Describe the typical patterns of sensory integration dysfunction and their proposed neural correlations
- Describe the neurological structures and their functions involved in the process of sensory integration
- Describe the relationship between sensory integration and participation in everyday activities and occupations
- Describe the functional implications and occupational factors concerning changes in sensory impairments;
- Discuss the praxis and its role in performance and behaviour
M2 INTRODUCTION TO COMPREHENSIVE ASSESSMENT IN ASI ONLINE

Module 2 is a set of 20 lessons aimed at introducing and orienting the learner to the scope of comprehensive assessment in ASI, including specific methods for assessing core sensory integrative functions and planning intervention when applying the ASI framework. Learners are introduced to information on direct and indirect assessments, including the Sensory Integration and Praxis Tests (SIPT) through www.wpspublish.org and the Evaluation in Ayres Sensory Integration (EASI) (Mailloux, Parham & Smith Roley, 2016, in process).See www.easibritishisles.com for more information.

WHO CAN TAKE THIS COURSE
Module 2 is open to healthcare professionals with at least a bachelor level equivalent college/university degree in occupational therapy, speech pathology, physical therapy, psychology, or medicine. Module 2 is a prerequisite to Module 3.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
After the course, participants will be able to:
- Determine an assessment plan for a client
- Determine the evaluations appropriate to assess ASI constructs in all areas
- Analyse the psychometric strength of the evaluations
- Reliably administer the SIPT, SPM, and EASI
- Understand the constructs tested by sensory-related measures
- Design clinical observations of sensory integration constructs when standardised measures are not possible
- Demonstrate competence in the application of clinical observations based on ASI
- Identify whether an evaluation report meets the standard for structural elements on ASI Intervention Fidelity Measure
M2 COURSE INSTRUCTOR
Zoe Mailloux, OTD, OTR/L, FAOTA
Zoe is a founding partner, alongside Susanne Smith Roley, of the Collaborative for Leadership in Ayres Sensory Integration (CLASI). She has participated in test development and clinical research related to sensory integrative dysfunction and autism, and she was a research assistant to Dr A. Jean Ayres from 1978 to 1984 during which time she was involved in many clinical and research projects with Dr Ayres. Zoe has more than 30 years of experience in non-profit management, and she is currently an Adjunct Associate Professor in the Department of Occupational Therapy, Jefferson School of Health Professions at Thomas Jefferson University. She is also in private practice and consults on a variety of projects including program and professional development. Zoe has published numerous journal articles and textbook chapters and has received several professional awards, including being named a fellow of AOTA in 1993. She also received an award of excellence from the Autism Research Foundation, the Wilma West Lectureship at the University of Southern California and the A. Jean Ayres Award and the Virginia Scardina Award of Excellence from the American Occupational Therapy Foundation. Zoe is interested in innovative practice that will enhance life satisfaction in new and effective ways for children and their families.
M3 COMPREHENSIVE ASSESSMENT IN AYRES SENSORY INTEGRATION IN PRACTICE
Three days live online via Zoom with a fourth day live via zoom a month later.
(2 additional live online tutor sessions to support assignment completion are offered as required – TBA in conjunction with Lead OT)
This module provides live learning and practice and a review of all aspects of sensory integration and praxis with a variety of assessments that were introduced in Module 2. During Module 3, participants will have an opportunity to clarify any questions they have about the information presented in M2 instruction, practice assessment administration and scoring with peers. The assignments require the practice of the assessments with friends or family before completing your case study; comprehensive assessment of a client.
*Module 2 is a prerequisite to Module 3.
